By the contract with the North German Lloyd,

which has been sanctioned by the Federal Council, re-

lative to the maintenance of German Postal communica-

tion with East Asia and Australia, tnc North German

Lloyd is under the obligation of providing the

following lines for the next fifteen years beginning

from the 1st, of January 1899.

1.

For the traffic with East Asia a direct

line from Bremerhaven or Hamburg to China,

toucning

at either a Dutch or Belgian port, Genoa, Naples,

Fort Said, Suez, Aden, Colombo, Singapore,

Hongkong,

to Shanghai and back by the same ports.

A direct line from Bremerhaven or Hamburg to

Japan touching at a Dutal or Belgian port, Genoa,

Naples, Fort Said, Suez, Aden, Colombo, Singapore,

Hongkong to Yokohama and back by Hiogo, Nagasaki, Hongkong, and the other ports touched at on the out-

ward voyage.
